Causes of valvular heart disease

This article is written to remove some of the mystery of valvular heart disease. Necessarily rather complex, but it should be easier to understand than the information most physicians would receive.

Valve disease heart or a valve, may even be present at birth (congenital) or can develop at any period of time during a life span of people. There are times when the exact caauses valvular heart disease can not be discovered. Valvular heart disease is divided into congenital valve disease, bicuspid disease aortic valve disease, acquired valve and mitral valve prolapse (MVP).

When the valve disease is present at birth, which is known as congenital valve disease. This type usually affects the pulmonary valve or the aortic valve. Sometimes the valves are not simply the right size or else the leaflets did not form properly.

Bicuspid aortic valve disease is congenital, and in this If bicuspid aortic valve has two leaflets instead of three that are supposed to have. This can cause the valve to be rigid, leaking, or both.

Acquired valve disease is any problem that occurs once as a result of normal valves. Sometimes the composition of the valves to change as a result infections or diseases. Rheumatic fever causes heart valve to become red and swollen and brochures to cling together. This leads to the valves the heart every time unnecessarily thickened, shortened, stiff and scarred. This can lead to mitral regurgitation. Rheumatic fever often occurs as result of a bacterial infection, one of the strep throat are common. However, the great variety of antibiotics that are available today have significantly reduced the incidence of this infection.

Another disease that can cause disease is acquired valve endocarditis. This disease occurs when bacteria and germs make their way into the bloodstream and then begin to invade the heart valves. This attack causes growths to begin in the heart valves and holes to take place. This can lead to scarring of the heart valves. leaky valves end up being the result of all this. The germs that cause endocarditis can occur as a result of surgery, intravenous drug use, dental surgery and / or types of serious infections. Any person suffering from valve disease (excluding those who have mitral valve prolapse) is in a terrible risk of endocarditis, which can be fatal if not treated immediately.

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is widespread and affects an average of one to two percent of the U.S. population on an annual basis. This condition causes the mitral valve to fall back into the left atrium, while the heart contracts. MVP also cause the tissues become strange shaped valve and become elastic and cause leakage. MVP is rare to cause any symptoms at all with a patient and most of the time that does not require any special medical treatment.

Diseases and disorders above are the most common causes the MVP, but there are other causes as well. A doctor visit and a variety of tests should help determine the exact cause of valve disease if diagnosed with it. Other causes include coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy (or heart muscle disease), heart attack, hypertension, aortic aneurysm, disease connective tissue and sexually transmitted diseases (syphilis, the most common being). There are also less common reasons for valve disease such as tumors, radiation and a variety of drug treatments.

Heart Failure

Heart Failure

Heart failure, also called congestive heart failure, is a condition in which the heart cannot pump enough oxygenated blood to meet the needs of the body?s other organs. The heart keeps pumping, but not as efficiently as a healthy heart. Usually, the loss in the heart?s pumping action is a symptom of an underlying heart problem. Heart failure affects nearly 5 million US adults. It is on the rise wi...

Episodes of dizziness and loss of consciousness are unsettling and potentially life-threatening. But as our population ages, these problems become more common. Often, they stem from heart rhythm irregularities: cardiac arrhythmias. So how do we treat them? This program looks at different kinds of cardiac arrhythmias, as well as the variety of new and emerging treatments used to control them. ...

 Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy/Dysplasia

Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy/Dysplasia

$35.69

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia is an inherited heart muscle disorder that may cause abnormal electrical heart rhythms and weakening of the pumping action of the heart, resulting in sudden death. The electrocardiograph (EKG) is used to diagnose the disease, so it is important for cardiac electrophysiologists to be familiar with the disease and to be able to recognize it on the EKG.

Genetics of Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure

Genetics of Cardiomyopathy and Heart Failure

$94

This issue explores the genetic basis of specific cardiomyopathies and phenotypic components of heart failure with an eye to the clinical implications of this genetic knowledge. An understanding of the genetic causes of disease can aid in development of effective prevention and management strategies.
