Drinking Age
Drinking age should not be reduced to 18 years:
Introduction:
There debate was much more than the legal drinking age should be lowered to 18 years, the drinking age was set at 21 years in 1984 in the United States and must remain at 21 years. The first question to ask is that you want the legal drinking age to increase the population is under 21 or is it alcohol producers or is it of our leaders. The next question is who will benefit when the age is reduced to 18. If populations of less than 21 years and have attained 18 years of wants age reduced to 18 years who are making the right decisions or are capable of making the right decisions, adults should guide the younger generation and therefore we can say that under 21 are taking the right decision.
The next question is whether under 21 years shall be distributed benefits, according to the situation that is not likely to receive benefits because alcohol producers are benefiting from the decline in the drinking age, The first reason is because the demand for alcohol will increase as a result of the introduction of the product to a younger population than before was not allowed to drink.
This presentation highlights the reasons why the drinking age should remain at the age of 21 years, some of the reasons include increased accidents, diseases associated with increased alcohol consumption, increasing problems with the law among those under 21 years.
Reasons why the drinking age should remain remain at 21 years:
Increased accidents:
Consumption of alcohol under age 21 has increased in the past, this has led to take more road fatalities, among these teens, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety 12.8% of fatal accidents are alcohol related and 40% of these accidents are related to teenage drinking and driving. Therefore, if we allow people aged 18-21 years drink this means that we will increase the number of fatal accidents drinking and driving.
The problem is that when fatal accidents occur due to drinking users way too innocent will suffer in the process, this is because despite existing laws that prohibit teens from drinking and driving are more likely to violate the law high growth and therefore we should not set the minimum drinking age to 18 years should not solve the problem of drunken driving, causing more problems roads to allow more people to drink, we must solve this problem by adopting policy measures that minimize the drunken driving problem among children 21.
The following image shows an accident that occurred due to drinking and driving, the painting was recovered
Since the accident referred to is apparent that two vehicles were involved in the accident, although it is clear that only one vehicle caused the accident and the innocent also suffered.
Scientific evidence shows that children under age 21 are less experienced drivers, it is clear that driving involves reasoning, concentration and making appropriate decisions. If a driver is drunk this slows down their judgments and concentration leading to fatal accidents, this can be even worse for drivers have less experience such as under age 21.
Below is another image that shows a fatal accident caused by drink driving, the table was recovered
In the picture above it is clear that the vehicle occupants were seriously injured, despite their goods also suffer from accidents.
The increase in accidents mean higher medical expenses of children under 21 years, the increase in deaths between the loss under 21 and other age groups, from the property, the increase in court cases may lead to the loss of time and finally the population spend more on alcohol than other economic development projects, such as investments.
The increase in disease:
We hope that the hope of living to decline as a result of the reduction of legal drinking age to 18 years, this is due to excessive alcohol consumption leads to major physical problems Examples of such problems include liver damage as a result of excessive drinking can cause cirrhosis disease, the other problem is that excessive drinking will lead to stomach ulcers, high blood pressure pressure and heart disease and excessive alcohol consumption can lead ultimately to the death of brain cells leading to loss of coordination, the trial and reasoning.
For this reason that the increase in the occurrence of diseases related to this alcohol will lead to a decline in life expectancy under 21 years, the other problem is that there will be increased health spending by both individuals and government, there will be an increase in expenditure on alcohol, which can reduce economic growth in which these funds were diverted to other income generating projects or even spend on clothes, food, investment and education.
Other diseases:
When people are drunk prone to peer pressure, for those under 21 years of peer pressure is one of these problems, it is clear that young women under 21 years will more likely to be willing to have sex and, worse still unprotected sex when drunk, which may not have done if they were sober, through this policy measure to reduce the legal drinking age will result in an increase in sexually transmitted diseases among children under 21 years, the increase of unwanted pregnancies and ultimately increasing immorality among the young generation in the nation. For this reason, therefore should not reduce the legal age drinking from 21 to 18 years in order to protect young people from this kind of problems they may face.
with drug abuse:
Under a 2005 study by SADD results showed that there was an increase in alcohol consumption among children under 21 years, it was also clear that those who consumed alcohol before reaching the age of 21 years, more likely to abuse alcohol than alcohol has been first at the age of 21 years, this shows that we will increase addiction to drugs by setting the drinking age at 18 years and this can only be reduced by allowing the drinking age at 21 years and other measures policy.
Who benefits:
We now analyze who benefits from the reduction of legal age for drinking to 18, the above discussion we have analyzed the problems that less than 21 years will face, the young will benefit will be only because able to enjoy alcohol and have the freedom to drink, but alcohol producers will benefit most due to increased demand and thereby increase its market share, we must also ask what will happen in the future, if we let the age be reduced to 18 in the coming years people will want the age 16 years was reduced to 10 years, we should make policies that protect the younger generations and not destroy them.
The website of the U.S. Census shows the population size in 2000 and the following table summarizes the percentage composition of age groups in the year, data were recovered
From table above aged 18 to 21 years up from 6% in April 2000, this is a rough estimate of the percentage of today and this means that lower the drinking age to 18 will allow for 6% of the population to abuse alcohol. However, we must try to protect this generation helping them make the right decisions and not make them drink and die young. Alcohol producers are well aware of the increased market share if the age is reduced to 18 years to that to obtain greater benefits, however it is better for us to save lives that allow companies to submit proposals selfish to increase profits.
