Treating high blood pressure, Mediterranean style

It is very important to realize that high blood pressure may go unnoticed and undiagnosed for years without causing symptoms of blood pressure but without causing progressive damage to the heart, blood vessels and other organs. For the when high blood pressure, or hypertension, is diagnosed, the damage may be irreparable - leading to a heart attack, heart disease or stroke.
The cardioprotective properties of the foods consumed in countries like Italy, Greece, Portugal, Spain and France gave rise to the expression "The Mediterranean Diet '. The benefits of this way of eating came to light through studies in the mid-1940s that was particularly low incidence of heart disease in the Mediterranean basin. However, the benefits of the Mediterranean diet in the High blood pressure treatment have only been re-discovered since the 1990s.
A closer look reveals that the type of food consumed were much more healthy for the heart than the high-sodium diet in the U.S.. The vegetables are not overcooked and there was a selection of raw vegetables and fruits is ie, more vitamins and minerals beneficial to high- pressure treatment blood were retained. A lot of protein comes from plant sources, thereby reducing the amount of saturated fat that often accompanies animal protein. The total amounts of saturated fats and trans fats are known to increase blood cholesterol and blood pressure were low. These bad fats were replaced by monounsaturated fats, are considered beneficial in the treatment of heart disease and hypertension.
So what is in the Mediterranean diet can help treat High blood pressure?
1.Anti-oxidants - such as vitamins A, C and E to prevent cholesterol buildup in arteries. This prevents the narrowing of blood vessels and efficient help in high treatment blood pressure
2.Potassium - helps in the treatment of high blood pressure that counteracts the negative effects of sodium in the bloodstream
3.Folic acid - which helps reduce the formation of homocysteine which can contribute to heart disease.
4.Omega 3 - is found in fatty fish common in the Mediterranean diet, have special protective properties of the heart. These properties include the reduction of cardiac arrhythmias reducing blood viscosity and reduce injury to artery walls. All this contributes to the treatment of high blood pressure.
As with any change in diet, the choice of eating a Mediterranean style to maximum effect in reducing heart disease only when combined with other positive changes in lifestyle such as quitting smoking and increasing exercise.
However, the increase in the consumption of Italian grilled vegetables, grilled Spanish sardines strangest of the glass of French wine sounds like a more pleasant way to reduce heart disease!

Anything other than ordinary, but the blue and moody sometimes. but the doctor is sent to a ped. cardiologist for an electrocardiogram and echiocardigram. She has had two heart / chest radiographs. wouldnt have shown on a radiograph? I'm not sure. Just wondering. Thank you.

A chest radiograph is the most basic diagnostic tools. Only shows a schematic core of the heart. I would think that if they see the problems involved in heart muscle and valves then have to do ultrasounds, echo and electrocardiogram to determine if he had described malformations in this disorder. Or to point out where is the problem if you do not find them. You can also MRI want to do and hopefully you'll get answers quickly.

Hypertension Causes

Latest research. Pulmonary Hypertension

Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of pulmonary hypertension are subtle in early stages of the disease and may not be noticeable for months or even years. As the disease progresses, signs and symptoms worsen. They include:

  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath (dyspnea), whether in the exercise or at rest
  • Dizziness or fainting (syncope)
  • The swelling (edema) in the ankles, legs, and finally in the abdomen (ascites)
  • Pressure or chest pain
  • Racing pulse or heart palpitations
  • Bluish lips and skin (cyanosis)

Definition

You've probably heard of high blood pressure (hypertension) a common condition that affects how your blood flows through arteries in your body from the left side of his heart. A less common type of pressure high blood pressure called pulmonary hypertension, affects only the arteries in the lungs and the right side of his heart.

Pulmonary hypertension begins when the small arteries in the lungs, called pulmonary arteries and capillaries, become narrowed, blocked or destroyed. This makes it harder for blood flow through the lungs, which raises pressure within the pulmonary arteries. When the pressure increases, the heart of the lower right chamber (ventricle right) must work harder to pump blood through the lungs, eventually causing the heart muscle weakens and sometimes not at all.

The Pulmonary hypertension is a serious disease that progressively worsens and is sometimes fatal. Although not curable, treatments are available that can help reduce symptoms and improve their quality of life if you have pulmonary hypertension.

Causes

Your heart has two upper and two lower chambers. Each time the blood passed through his heart, the lower right chamber (right ventricle) pumps blood to the lungs through a large blood vessel (pulmonary artery). In the lungs, the blood releases carbon dioxide and picks up oxygen. Oxygen-rich blood then passes through the pulmonary veins to the left side of his heart. From there it is pumped by the left ventricle to the rest of your body through another large blood vessel, the aorta.

Normally, blood flows easily through the vessels of the lungs, so your blood pressure is usually much lower in the lungs. With pulmonary hypertension, increased blood pressure is the end result of a process that begins with changes in the cells that line the lungs' arteries. These changes cause the formation of extra tissue that eventually narrows or completely blocks blood vessels. Scarring (fibrosis) also occurs usually what causes the arteries narrow and stiff. This makes it harder blood flow, increasing the pressure in the pulmonary arteries. more ...

The Hypertension Report - Say Goodbye to High Blood Pressure

The Hypertension Report - Say Goodbye to High Blood Pressure

$12.89

An estimated 50 million Americans have high blood pressure, often called the silent killer'' because it may not cause symptoms until the patient has suffered serious damage to the arterial system. It raises the risk of heart attacks, strokes, congestive heart failure, kidney damage, dementia and even blindness. That's a laundry list of horrors you want to avoid and so drug treatment should be an easy sell to the public. There is a massive campaign going on to educate the public to the NEW PARADIGM: Early detection means early treatment and cure -- just like with the American Cancer Society and the war on breast cancer. And like the war on breast cancer, it may turn out to just as disappointing. Early drug treatment may not work at all to reduce the mortality rate. It needs to be tried, however, IF they can find drugs that won't do more harm than good. Hypertension treatment is the same regardless of whether the problem is systolic or diastolic or both. But what if they have different mechanisms? Then you will need two drugs, which greatly increases your potential for serious side effects. Diet, exercise, potassium supplements chelation therapy and practically anything but drugs is the way to go in my opinion. We discuss alternatives in this report.
