Diagnosing Signs And Symptoms Of Hypertension

Hypertension is a condition that usually occurs in older adults but may also be seen in younger adults. The basis of this condition is the chronically elevated blood pressure on the individual. There are no visible signs and symptoms of hypertension which is why the condition needs to be diagnosed properly by a qualified doctor in order to be treated. There are some broad or common signs and symptoms of hypertension which may be attributed to this condition as well as other conditions.

Unlike portal hypertension symptoms, the signs and symptoms of hypertension are quite common and may be linked to other conditions. The so called signs and symptoms of hypertension need to be reported to a qualified doctor for him or her to make the right diagnosis for hypertension or whatever condition or disease the symptoms indicate. Self diagnosis may be dangerous for this condition since some people are in denial with regards to their health.

Signs of Hypertension

A person's family tree, lifestyle and physical appearance may be the basis of a recommendation for a check up for high blood pressure. Actually, these are not sure fire signs that one might have hypertension; they are only signs that indicate one's susceptibility to the condition. The signs and symptoms of hypertension need to be altogether present for the doctor to make a diagnosis.

Another sign that a person is susceptible to high blood pressure is one's family tree. This condition tends to run in families which is why the presence of hypertensive family members can be a strong indication that one is susceptible to this condition.

A person's physical appearance and lifestyle can also be among the signs and symptoms of hypertension. Basically, hypertension can occur to people no matter their sizes but obese people may be more prone to this condition than others. Smoking is another habit that needs to be avoided in order to help prevent hypertension and may be considered as a sign of susceptibility to high blood pressure.

Common signs and symptoms of hypertension are the frequent occurrence of an elevated or an irregular heart rate, a severe headache which may be localized in the nape or back of the head, problems with one's eyesight, pain in the chest area and confusion or disorientation.

All of the abovementioned signs and symptoms of hypertension can also be linked to other ailments. This means that the only way of confirming these supposed signs and symptoms of hypertension is to have one's blood pressure taken and some tests performed.

Portal hypertension is causally related to major complications of chronic liver disease like upper GI tract bleeding, ascites formation, portosystemic encephalopathy and bacterial infections. In recent years, new approaches have increased our knowledge of the underlying pathobiological events of these complications. Accordingly, new promising treatment modalities have been developed and introduced into clinical trials. This book, the proceedings of the 79th Falk Symposium in Freiburg-im-Breisgau, Germany, 17--19 June 1994, presents the latest developments in the field, including a section which describes the role of portal hypertension in the pathogenesis of complications of chronic liver disease. Also covered is the therapeutic management of portal hypertension and its consequences as well as the latest endoscopic, interventional and surgical treatment options. This book is essential reading for those whose interests range from anatomy and pathobiology through to practical recommendations for treatment of portal hypertension.
